Funding is essential to build a business or launch a new innovation. Most start-ups and SMEs do not have the financial means to (fully) make these investments themselves. Result: the company’s growth is limited. The team faces the following challenge: where can we find the investor who is reliable and who can offer real added value for our company?

At WaterCampus there are two options:
Nice examples from our own instruments and our network can be found below.
The Bison Foundation is part of WaterCampus Leeuwarden and aims to stimulate the Northern Netherlands economy by helping starting entrepreneurs in water technology. Bison helps by financing startups and SME’s, and assisting them in creating a successful business(plan). Financing options range from 5,000 to 100,000 euros
VIDA aims to accelerate the implementation of new solutions (preferably key enabling technologies) in the food sector which improve the usage of water and energy with the ambition to reduce losses and consumption. VIDA has three different types of funding vouchers to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) seeking new resource efficient solutions. Curently all vouchers are granted. But the consortium, including the Water Alliance, is working on a follow-up program.
The range of financing possibilities available to SME’s and start-ups is becoming increasingly diverse. In addition to banks, there are all kinds of alternatives. This gives entrepreneurs more options, but at the same time often results in unclear situations for entrepreneurs. To facilitate the entrepreneurs, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs initiated the Financing Tables. One of these finance tables is organised by WaterCampus Leeuwarden and the province of Fryslân. At this table we connect entrepreneurs with the right (combination of) financing. More information can be found here.
Both the Water Alliance and the Centre of Expertise Water Technology have been participating in the European Water Test Network project since the summer of 2018. The aim of the project is to create an European network of test facilities with different types of water where startups and SMEs from Northwest Europe can test, demonstrate and develop their innovations for the water sector. In this way the project wants to stimulate new innovations and accelerate the market introduction. Within the project companies are supported in accelerating the market introduction of their water technologies. In addition to assistance with the validation and verification of products, this support also consists of financing. The project makes vouchers available up to € 50,000 for testing products at the test facilities.
